🔪 Preparing Fresh Ripe Ready Eat Avocados

Preparing a ripe Avocado is quick and simple.

  1. Wash the outside before cutting.
  2. Place on a stable chopping board.
  3. Carefully slice lengthways around the stone.
  4. Twist the two halves apart.
  5. Carefully remove the stone.
  6. Scoop the flesh from the skin with a spoon.
  7. Slice, dice or mash depending on your recipe.

🍋 Fruit Bowl Tip

Once cut, Avocado flesh naturally begins to brown when exposed to air.

A little fresh lemon or lime juice over the exposed flesh can help slow browning while adding fresh citrus flavour.

If you’re not using the whole fruit immediately, cover the remaining flesh and refrigerate it.

❓ Ripe Avocado FAQs

How do I know whether my Avocado is ripe?
A ripe Avocado generally gives slightly when gently pressed. Avoid squeezing repeatedly or firmly because this can bruise the flesh.

Can I eat this Avocado straight away?
Yes. It’s sold as ripe and ready to eat, although natural variation means individual fruits can differ slightly in firmness.

How should ripe Avocados be stored?
Once ripe, refrigeration can help slow further ripening if you’re not eating the fruit immediately.

How can I stop cut Avocado turning brown?
Add a little lemon or lime juice to the exposed flesh, cover it and refrigerate.

Can Avocado be frozen?
Yes. The flesh can be mashed with a little lemon or lime before freezing. It’s particularly useful afterwards for smoothies, dips and guacamole.

Is Avocado a fruit or vegetable?
Botanically, Avocado is a fruit, although it’s commonly used in savoury dishes in much the same way as a vegetable.

Can Avocado be eaten raw?
Absolutely. It’s most commonly eaten raw in salads, sandwiches, dips, toast and similar dishes.
